The next step in developing our CERT Emergency Communications plan is the brainwriting challenge for team members. We are using a design thinking approach. Follow along on my blog at:

https://www.montie.com

Challenge Question

How do we create a workable plan that allows the CERT team to communicate within the team, with local authorities and the community in an emergency

Specific Questions

1) How do we communicate with all CERT members (Ham and non-Ham) during a deployment?
2) If we have an issue with one communication path how do we let everyone know that we need to switch to another method (maybe another channel, repeater, app or method all together)?
3) How does the CERT team communicate with the community during a grid down situation?
4) How does the CERT team communicate between members (HAM and non-HAM) during a grid down situation?
5) What would a one way communication / “beacon” do and how could it be accessible by hams, non-hams and the general community in an emergency?

Buckets

Deployed Communication
Communication between CERT and the community
Ham Comms
Non-Ham Comms
Grid Down
Beacon / One Way Comms
Digital Comms
Our local CERT team is working on a communications plan to cover 2 very different situations:

1) deployed in an emergency
2) not deployed, most likely in a longer term emergency or a grid down situation

CERT means Community Emergency Response Team. There are CERT teams across the United States.

We are going to document our work so others can leverage our work and make developing a communications plan easier for other groups. We hope to use standard innovation tools to use the knowledge within our local community. These design thinking tools include:

– brainwriting
– brainstorming

Our approach, ideas, and research can help you develop a plan for your local community or other group. Maybe even your family emergency communications plan. We are looking at incorporating the communications elements that we have available to our members:

- CB radio
- MURS, GMRS, and FRS radios
- Ham frequencies, repeaters and digital technologies
- Internet options such as Zello
- Other options we haven’t even thought of yet
- LoRa Meshtastic

Join my update on the winter garden, cover crops and how a simple idea saves time while mowing the grass. Just a simple change of how where posts go in for the anti-deer fence means less time spend weed eating.

Simply Us Farm is also a community garden. We want to help feed local families, one family at a time.

This podcast was recorded in the car and there was more road noise than I wanted, but these are some important thoughts, please bear with me.

Lets talk about how rising food prices can lead to reduced food production. Also why the return on investment for buying a freezer full of beef might be better than putting your money in the stock market this year. I'm not giving financial advice, just a discussion of current events.
Sounds crazy, but it you were a tyrant, how could you get control of a nation.

How to lose control of your life and liberty

1. create a food shortage or make food so expensive people can't afford it
2. give it some time, let the prices rise
3. tell the people that the shortage has a solution, but we have to give more control to the government
4. wait for the us to get more and more desperate for food for us and our families
5. remind us that the problem was caused by X but the government has a solution
6. wait for us to beg for food
7. promise to fix the problem, take more control and take our liberty away
8. never fix the problem, but its too late we gave away our liberty

Is this the most likely scenario? I don't know. However there is a way to protect your community and your family.

A Real Solution without the Government

Steps to Keep Control of Your Life and Liberty

1. Grow some or part of your own food.
2. Preserve and store that food
3. Teach your neighbors to grow and preserve food
4. Help your neighbors grow and preserve food
5. Your community can thrive

Join me a I discuss how to help your community thrive in tough times.
Some days are easier than others. Being flexible helps turn a frustrating day into a productive and happy one!
Lets take a walk and check on the progress at the farm as of March 15th, 2022. We'll also take a look at my progress towards becoming a better farmer!
